Growing with Dell: Seventeen Years of Learning and Impact

Technology

For over 17 years, Mohan’s journey at Dell Technologies has been defined by growth, learning, and a deep sense of belonging. What began as a role in technology evolved into a meaningful career shaped by trust, opportunity and people who continuously inspire one another. Over the years, roles, technologies and responsibilities have changed — but what has remained constant is the culture. Dell has always felt like an extended family to Mohan: a place where individuals are supported, challenged and encouraged to be better every day. It is this environment that enabled him not just to build systems, but to build a career with purpose.

Curiosity has been the constant

One of the most defining lessons Mohan has learned over the years is the importance of curiosity. Technology never stands still — and neither should those who work within it. Staying curious, continuously learning and remaining open to exploring new technologies have been essential to his growth. Mohan believes the most impactful engineers are lifelong students — always learning, always questioning and always evolving. This mindset has helped him stay relevant, motivated and energized throughout his career.

The moments that make it all worthwhile

There are moments that remind you why the work matters. For Mohan, one such moment was realizing that products he helped develop were being used to protect customers from ransomware attacks and to support critical systems such as VISA processing. Knowing that his work directly contributes to security, trust and real‑world outcomes has been deeply fulfilling. Equally meaningful has been the opportunity to mentor fellow engineers — helping shape next‑generation technologies by sharing experience, guiding teams and encouraging excellence.

Collaboration starts with culture

Working across multiple teams has reinforced Mohan’s belief that strong outcomes begin with strong culture. He values inclusiveness, openness and respect — listening to ideas irrespective of role or title. When people feel safe to speak up and know their perspectives matter, collaboration becomes more effective and impactful. Building trust and encouraging open dialogue have been critical to forming strong partnerships and achieving shared success.

One purpose, different path

Early on, Mohan had aspired to become a doctor and worked toward pursuing an MBBS. While his path ultimately led him to engineering, the underlying motivation has remained the same: solving meaningful problems and making a positive difference in people’s lives. Technology became his medium to do just that — allowing him to create solutions that have impact at scale.

What experience teaches you over time

If Mohan could go back to his first year at Dell, his advice would be simple yet powerful: ask more questions — especially “why.” Not just once, but multiple times. He would encourage taking the time to deeply understand problems, research thoroughly and challenge assumptions rather than rushing to execution. This habit of critical thinking has been instrumental in shaping his growth as both an engineer and a leader.

For aspiring engineers, Mohan’s advice is straightforward: stay curious and never stop learning. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, challenge assumptions, or step outside your comfort zone. While technology will continue to evolve, it is mindset that ultimately shapes a career. Focusing on the “why,” seeking mentors, sharing knowledge and staying purpose‑driven are what lead to real impact — building solutions that truly matter to people.

“Stay curious, ask why relentlessly and build technology that truly makes a difference.”

Beyond the role

Outside of work, Mohan values quality time with his family — especially moments spent with his daughter and son. He is passionate about fitness and actively enjoys playing cricket, badminton, squash and carrom. These interests help him stay balanced and grounded, reinforcing the same discipline, curiosity and purpose that guide his professional journey.
