“Venezuela is looking for you”. Websites created to find earthquake victims

The Venezuela was shaken, on Wednesday (24), by two earthquakes that left the country in a state of emergency. It is estimated that there could be thousands of deaths and while many come together to help with rescue work, there are those who try to use the power of the internet to help too.

Thus, in just a few hours, at least two websites were created, containing lists of missing people, emergency contacts and information about people who have already been found.

“Venezuela te Busca” (Venezuela is looking for you) is a solidarity website where a thousand requests for help have already been registered. However, updated data at this time indicates that three have already been found and another 997 remain unknown.

Another platform was also created that has a larger list of missing people. In Venzuela Earthquake Missing, More than 9 thousand requests for help have already been registered.

“We reconnect families” you can read on the website which has already helped to find more than 500 people.

Earthquake in Venezuela

Two earthquakes of magnitude 7.5 and 7.2 hit the central region of Venezuela, causing material damage that is still being assessed. The country’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, has already declared a state of emergency and has also asked all health professionals to report to hospitals to provide care to possible victims.

So far, there is no official record of injuries or deaths, although Venezuela has already recorded 20 aftershocks.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) estimated, through forecast models, that the number of fatalities could reach thousands, with a significant probability of exceeding 10,000 deaths. The projection specifically points to a range between 10,000 and 100,000 deaths.

The tremors were also felt in regions of the Caribbean and northeastern Colombia, but there were no reports of damage or casualties in these locations.
