  • The 41-page complaint alleges that OpenAI employees who previously worked at Apple engaged in a coordinated effort to obtain confidential information and intellectual property from the company;
  • The lawsuit contains a series of accusations against OpenAI’s leadership, including Chief Hardware Officer Tang Tan;
  • Before joining OpenAI, Tan worked at Apple for 24 years, where he held leadership roles including vice president of product design for the iPhone and Apple Watch.

This was the first time that OpenAI spoke out about the content of the process itself. Hours after filing the lawsuit, the company had released an initial note in which it stated: “We have no interest in the trade secrets of other companies. We remain focused on building innovative technology that empowers people around the world.”

Apple says its internal investigation found evidence that OpenAI and its partners used confidential company information during the development of its own hardware product.

 

Reports and OpenAI’s recent acquisition of Jony Ive’s startup io indicate that the company is working on a device that could compete directly with Apple’s business. THE Bloomberg reported Tuesday that OpenAI is developing a mobile, screen-less smart speaker.
