The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max should be Apple’s next high-end models and, apparently, they could bring something new to the brand’s smartphones: a camera with variable aperture.
According to the ET News website, based on information from industry sources, the Chinese company Sunny Optical was chosen to supply one of the essential components of this system. In practice, the technology allows the camera lens to automatically adjust, opening or closing depending on the captured scene, which can improve performance in different light conditions.
This is not the first indication that Apple intends to invest in this feature. In December 2024, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had already pointed out that the Pro models in the iPhone 18 line could feature cameras with variable aperture.
According to information circulating in Apple’s supply chain, LG Innotek, responsible for producing camera modules, should begin manufacturing between June and July.
The expectation is that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will be presented in September. Apple usually carries out its main launches during this period, maintaining the tradition of announcing its new devices in the same month every year.
