Netflix announced that it has invested more than US$135 billion in series and films and has contributed more than US$325 billion to the world economy in the last ten years. The data was published this Tuesday, on a website created by the platform under the title “The Netflix Effect”.
The portal also estimates that the platform’s productions created more than 425 thousand jobs, including vacancies for actors, screenwriters, directors, visual effects artists, and other arms of the creative industry.
The company also claims to have established partnerships with more than 2,000 producers around the world and licensed titles from more than 3,000 companies, including public TV stations, in more than 50 countries.
The site also publicizes local successes, such as the impact of the series “Bridgerton” for the United Kingdom, whose first three seasons contributed more than US$275 million to the British economy, and the results of the series “O Eternauta” for Argentina, where almost 3,000 jobs were created.
“Stranger Things”, which came to an end last year with its fifth season, contributed around US$1.4 billion to the American economy, in addition to generating more than 8,000 jobs since filming the show’s first year, which took place in 2015.
The data also shows Netflix’s involvement with regions far from large urban centers – filmed in the Amazon, the Colombian series “Frontera Verde”, for example, involved local actors and more than 50 locations in the area – and that, today, non-English language content is responsible for more than a third of the platform’s viewing rates.
