Marvel Tokon will have a 10-hour story mode, but almost no gameplay

While fighting games are not necessarily known for their stories, the presence of narratives in many of them has become common. In Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Arc System Works promises to deliver an option of the type that will explain in about 10 hours the reasons why its heroes and villains are fighting.

However, anyone who decides to explore it should not expect a large amount of fights. In an interview with the website 4Gamer, producer Takeshi Yamanaka explained that the story mode was created to emulate a comic book, whose interactive elements will be minimal.

According to Yamanaka, Marvel Tokon’s narrative will be presented in the form of several frames that are presented dynamically and will be separated into several episodes. While there will be times when fights will occur, they should be fairly punctual.

Marvel Tokon will bring an interactive manga

Marvel Tokon producer explained that Arc System Works’ intention was to deliver a story mode different from those it has done in the past. “We had an artist draw the base manga, and then we added movements to each panel to advance the story, which is a very time-consuming way of presenting this.”, he stated.

To the game producer, the new mode should mainly cater to casual players who are not so accustomed to fighting experiences. The developer decided that, to attract fans of Marvel comics, it should invest in a familiar experience for those who already read them.

During the interview, the Marvel Tokon producer did not explain when the battles will occur, nor what their nature will be. However, it seems certain that story mode combats should not delve too deeply into the title’s more advanced mechanical issues.

Scheduled to debut on August 6, the game aims to differentiate itself from its competitors by focusing on battles with up to four participants on each side. However, Only one character will be available at the start of each fight — to unlock the others, you will need to fulfill several specific conditions.
