Google announces first physical store outside the US and chooses Tokyo

Google announced that it will open its first physical store outside the United States. The unit will open in the summer of 2026 and will be located in Tokyo, in the Omotesando region, one of the busiest commercial areas in the Japanese capital.

According to the company, the space will allow consumers to discover and buy several of the brand’s products, including Google Pixel smartphones, Google Nest devices, Google Fitbit watches and bracelets, as well as official accessories.

The store will also serve as a showcase for the latest artificial intelligence technologies developed by the company. Visitors will be able to test new AI-based tools and features directly on site.

In a statement, Google highlighted the importance of Japan to the company’s history. The country was the first international market to receive a company office outside the United States.

“Japan was the starting point of our global expansion, so we are very excited to open our flagship store in Tokyo as the next step on that path,” said the company.

The company added that the objective is to offer a closer experience to Japanese consumers, allowing them to learn about the brand’s products and services in a practical and interactive way.

“We look forward to exploring the possibilities that only a physical store can provide, meeting our customers personally and hearing their opinions and suggestions,” highlighted the company.

The inauguration reinforces Google’s strategy of expanding its presence in physical retail, following a model already adopted in the United States to promote its hardware products and artificial intelligence services.
