Over the years, this has included leading System Engineering teams across EE and ME, managing both Design Management and System Engineering and working across different lines of business, including Alienware. In 2026, Jay relocated from Taiwan to Singapore when taking on his current role, marking a transition not just in location, but in the scope of responsibility. Across these experiences, one pattern stands out: challenges rarely belong to just one function. They sit at the intersection of engineering, business and customer expectations. This breadth of exposure allows challenges to be evaluated from multiple angles, leading to more balanced and effective decisions. This approach is supported by a strong sense of curiosity and a passion for continuously learning and exploring new ideas and technologies, enabling him to bring fresh thinking to situations where the path forward is not always obvious.

Turning initiatives into scalable business impact

The impact of this way of working becomes clearer through the initiatives that have delivered tangible results. In 2018, Jay led the development of Dell common design for desktop across consumer and commercial segments, multiple form factors and different ODMs. By reusing validated designs, the work significantly improved design efficiency and reduced failure rates. The outcome was clear: Dell commercial desktops became recognized as the most reliable commercial PCs. This effort also reflected a broader shift in how Dell approaches engineering at scale. By driving a common design strategy across ODM partners and multiple form factors, Jay helped reshape the way desktop systems were developed — establishing a more scalable and consistent development model across the portfolio. His contributions have also been recognized with the John Medica Award, one of Dell’s highest honors acknowledging engineering excellence and innovation.

In 2023, he drove the Gaming SpeedRun 2.0 initiative to support aggressive time to market goals. The effort focused on reducing product offering complexity, accelerating development cycles and streamlining backend processes. More importantly, it established a repeatable model, one that continues to support faster delivery and sustained business success beyond a single launch. What connects these efforts is not just the outcome, but the ability to turn one-time improvements into something that scales.

Working across differences to drive results

Much of the daily challenge comes from the fact that different teams see the same problem from different perspectives. Bridging those perspectives is often what determines whether progress is made. A key part of Jay’s role is identifying a common goal across teams and aligning everyone toward a shared outcome. In this sense, alignment is not just coordination — it is about ensuring that effort is directed toward the same goal. When that happens, collaboration becomes more natural and execution becomes more effective. He is also motivated by the decisions behind the work. The opportunity to make critical business decisions and solve complex problems, especially those without clear precedents, is what keeps the work engaging. Beyond day‑to‑day responsibilities, this mindset extends to contributing to the broader organization in different ways. One example is his role as a sponsor of the Recent Graduate (RG) Rotation Program, where he supports early-career talent as they gain exposure to different functions and real-world business challenges, building the skills needed to succeed in a fast-evolving environment. From 2023 to 2025, he served as co‑chairman and later chairman of the Taiwan Design Center (TDC) Tell Dell taskforce, focused on making TDC a better place to work.

Outside of work, time spent on car modification and driving provides an opportunity to step back and recharge. That distance often brings clarity, allowing him to return to challenges with a fresh perspective.
