Apple announced this Monday (8), during the WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference), a new wave of artificial intelligence resources for its devices, in an attempt to expand the presence of the technology in its ecosystem after the delays and criticism faced by the first generation of Apple Intelligence.
The company entered into a partnership with Gemini, Google’s artificial intelligence arm, to set up the basis of the AI system that transforms Siri into an assistant more capable of performing tasks and understanding the user’s context. The tool gains expanded integration with applications and will be able to access personal information stored on devices and in the Apple account to offer more personalized responses.
The new operating system, iOS 27, should be available on iPhones up to model 11, in addition to iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, TV and Vision Pro.
In the demonstration, Mike Rockwell, Siri engineer, showed that the tool can identify the location of images published on social networks, for example, in addition to reading messages on its own on the user’s cell phone to find specific information, such as a friend’s address.
The news comes at a time of pressure for the company. Rivals such as Google and Microsoft have been accelerating investments in generative artificial intelligence, while Apple has struggled to meet the launch schedule for some previously announced functions.
Apple also announced the expansion of parental control features with the creation of the Child Account, an account aimed at children and teenagers that automatically adjusts restrictions and settings according to the user’s age group.
During device configuration, the system starts to suggest appropriate applications for each age. With the new feature, children and teenagers will be able to request access to blocked applications or platforms directly via cell phone, while their guardians will have the option to approve or deny the request remotely.
The tool also allows you to limit the contacts with which minors can communicate and creates barriers for content considered sensitive, including images with nudity or violence.
Parents will also be able to set usage time limits by application category, such as social networks and games, with suggestions provided by Apple itself. The system also makes it possible to define specific times for access to certain functions, restricting, for example, use during school hours.
Another announcement involves adjustments to the Liquid Glass interface, introduced last year, after user complaints about reading difficulties. The update will allow you to change the transparency level of buttons and other visual elements, in addition to expanding the customization options for application icons with new color layers.
The company also highlighted performance improvements in its operating systems. According to Apple, the updates make animations more responsive, speed up app opening by up to 30% and allow file transfers up to five times faster. Optimizations include changes to processor management to improve system efficiency.
Among the features aimed at everyday life, Apple announced new tools to make it easier to switch between Wi-Fi networks and mobile data. The Messages app also gained clearer indicators on the sending status of conversations, allowing you to see when a message has not yet been delivered and take new actions during the process.
The company also presented new functionalities for health monitoring. AirPods will receive additional audio customization features to adapt the listening experience to users’ preferences.
In Vision Pro, the company’s mixed reality headset, Apple announced improvements in image quality, with the aim of making the visual experience clearer and more immersive.
