Revealed in 2024, at the same time that Paramount was betting on Netflix’s live action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the series’ first Triple-A RPG was cancelled. According to information obtained by IGN, the publisher lost interest in the project, which would be developed by Saber Interactive.
With the temporary title “Ice Wars”, the project aimed to tell the story of a new Avatar. Its narrative would precede the events of the successful animation by thousands of years, and the title promised a vibrant world in which it would be possible to strive to master the four elements.
The project, which was intended to be extremely ambitious, wanted to be the broadest game ever made using elements from the franchise. Saber Interactive intended to create a very complex combat systemas well as moments in which players would have to make decisions that would shape the destiny of the entire world.
Avatar RPG fell victim to corporate changes
In an interview with IGN, Paramount Games’ head of creativity and production, Shawn Kittelsen, explained that the game stopped being a reality some time ago. The company, whose formation was officially announced this week, brings together projects that were previously linked to Skydance Interactive and Skydance New Media.
The situation of the Avatar RPG, which was lost during corporate changes, is similar to that of Black Forest Games. The company was first in charge of developing the game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, which was re-presented this week, this time linked to Platinum Games.

While Paramount Games decided not to continue with Saber Interactive’s ambitious project, it hasn’t given up on animation completely. She will be responsible for distributing the game Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, which hits stores on July 23rd, after being recently delayed.
Kittlesen explained that the new division wants to bring a commitment to electronic games that did not previously exist. According to him, The intention is to ensure that all announced projects will actually be launchedwhich should involve greater investment in the responsible studios.
