Hospital São José, in Joinville In Brazil, the largest municipal hospital in the northern region of Santa Catarina, began operating with two new surgical arches purchased for around R$1 million. The equipment was delivered on Friday (24) and is already in use in the unit’s surgical center.
The equipment replaces analog systems and now allows images to be viewed in real time during surgical procedures, increasing the precision of interventions.
The new surgical arches feature high-definition digital imaging technology, with a 27-inch monitor, 4K resolution and an anti-reflection system. The equipment allows real-time monitoring during procedures, without the need for external image processing.
According to hospital administration the technological update eliminates steps previously required in analog systems, which should impact the agility of procedures and the flow of use of operating rooms.
The acquisition was made possible with resources from Joinville City Hall and a parliamentary amendment from state deputy Matheus Cadorin (Novo).

Equipment should increase efficiency and surgical capacity
With the incorporation of new equipment, the São José Municipal Hospital expands the use of technology in specialties such as orthopedics, urology and endoscopy, in addition to trauma procedures, an area in which the unit is a regional reference.
During the handover ceremony, the mayor Rejane Gambin (New) highlighted that surgical arches should bring more efficiency to hospital care. “The equipment will make a big difference in the lives of the team that works at the hospital and in the lives of the patients”, he stated.
The expectation of hospital management is to increase the capacity to perform surgeries and greater operational efficiency in the surgical center. One of the pieces of equipment is already in operation and the second should be incorporated into the care routine in the coming days.
The new structure also allows integration with the hospital’s digital system, with automatic sending of images to record and monitor the procedures performed.
