The Apple has officially released the developer version of the next iPhone update, iOS 26.5, which confirms the arrival of end-to-end encryption in RCS (Rich Communication Services) messages exchanged between iPhones and Android cell phones in the Messages app.
It is worth noting that the feature will initially be available in beta version and only with operators that already support this technology.
The information indicates that the function will be released gradually, over time. In other words, the option to send more secure messages between iOS and Android will not be available to all users once iOS 26.5 is released.
As the website 9to5Google recalls, support for RCS was adopted by Apple with the launch of iOS 18. However, it was only last year that the protocol started to feature end-to-end encryption between iOS and Android. At the time, the company stated that this extra level of security would arrive through “future software updates”, a promise that is now beginning to be fulfilled with iOS 26.5.
The expectation is that the new version will be released for compatible iPhones later this week or early next week.
