The Microsoft will bring together the Copilot versions in a single application. Satya Nadella confirmed the plan on the July 29th earnings call, with an execution deadline within the current quarter.
The application brings together four fronts that currently live separately: consumer chat, the GitHub programming assistant, Copilot Cowork and the agent system called Autopilot. The proposal covers both domestic and corporate audiences in the same product.
What Nadella told investors
The statement came short and without a set date.
“Copilot is rapidly evolving from chat to Cowork and Autopilots”
He concluded by saying that the company is bringing these experiences to a single super app this quarter, including code, with reach on the consumer and commercial fronts. He called the step an important step forward and promised to provide more details soon.
The deadline is the only numerical commitment in the speech, the current quarter runs until September, and Microsoft has not clarified whether the delivery will be a complete public launch or something staggered, in the format of a preview or partial release.

The project is not completely new. Fortune published on May 29, with two sources who requested anonymity, that Microsoft was putting this together under the command of Jacob Andreou, appointed shortly before to head Copilot.
His central task, according to the report, was to unite the consumer and corporate sides into a coherent product.
What Microsoft Didn’t Say
The list of gaps is long for an announcement made by the executive president. There is no release date, list of supported platforms, licensing model, pricing structure, or details on administration controls for enterprise customers.
It also remains open how the application will handle the separation of identity between personal and work accounts, a sensitive point for IT departments. THE Redmond company it only said it will share more information soon.
For those who build a PC, the question remains about requirements. Microsoft now allows local Windows 11 language model APIs to run on GeForce RTX cards, without depending on the NPU required on Copilot+ PCs, and has not yet indicated whether the new application takes advantage of local processing or runs entirely in the cloud.
The swing that serves as a backdrop
The announcement came out in the best quarter in the company’s history:

Revenue for the fiscal year closed at US$331.8 billion, around R$1.69 trillion. The official release points out that earnings per share benefited by US$ 0.27 due to specific items, including a gain of US$3.2 billion from Microsoft’s stake in Anthropic and lower-than-expected expenses under the voluntary retirement program, partially offset by terminations and write-downs at Xbox.
In the conversation with analysts, Nadella advocated that companies keep the agent orchestration layer separate from the model, in order to be able to change suppliers, and presented the MAI family as a lower cost option compared to OpenAI and Anthropic, the two laboratories in which Microsoft has a stake.
The brand mess that the app tries to solve
The problem that the super app attacks is known. A survey by researcher Tey Bannerman counted more than 80 different uses of the Copilot brand within Microsoft, spread across keyboards, an entire category of notebooks, Office resources and GitHub functions.
Adoption numbers among AI assistants help explain the rush. Research by SimilarWeb found that only 1.1% of those who use web assistants use Copilot, compared to 64.5% for ChatGPT. In May, Microsoft started allowing the complete removal of the application in Windows 11 through Settings.
There is also a recent history of decline. Xbox has ended development of Copilot for current-gen consoles and mobile devices, canceling an announced timeline of 2025.
OpenAI made the same move before
Consolidation is not exclusive, OpenAI has combined ChatGPT and the Codex coding tool into a product called ChatGPT Work, aimed at corporate customers. Anthropic has been doing this since the beginning with Claude, Cowork and Code…
Therefore, the response to this seam in competitors serves as a warning. OpenAI itself publicly admitted that the unified application was confusing, a sign that bringing chat, agents and programming together in one interface is a more difficult product problem than it appears in the slide.

Thirty million paid seats versus 1.1% web usage
The two numbers that Microsoft released about Copilot tell different stories. In the corporate sector, the assistant went from more than 20 million paid seats in April to more than 30 million in Junegrowth of 50% in one quarter. In open consumption, the share measured by SimilarWeb was 1.1%.
The super app is the attempt to use the force of one side to resolve the other. Anyone who already pays for Microsoft 365 Copilot at work would find the same application at home, without changing programs or accounts.
GitHub Copilot is the most valuable piece in this seamwith 50 million declared users, a number that easily surpasses the chat assistant base. Placing programming within the same application as a common consumer is an unusual bet, and Microsoft has not yet explained how it intends to separate the two experiences within a single interface.
