The Oracle signed a 10-year, nearly $7 billion contract with the United States Department of War aimed at simplifying a fragmented licensing model and increasing efficiency within the agency.
The Austin-based software and cloud computing company had separate contracts with different areas of the department. According to the American government, the new agreement should optimize services and generate savings of hundreds of millions of dollars for taxpayers.
“Reducing fragmented purchases and advancing enterprise-level standardization will strengthen interoperability, reduce cybersecurity risk and help us focus resources on resilient capabilities that can scale, integrate and endure in contested conditions,” said Barry Tanner, spokesman for the Department of the Navy, in a statement released on Thursday (23).
The initiative “is designed to address these challenges by creating a more standardized and efficient path for Oracle’s cloud and AI technology, tuned to support mission-critical scenarios,” said Kim Lynch, Oracle’s executive vice president for government, defense and intelligence.
