YouTube allows you to block Shorts and remove videos from the app’s feed

Technology

The YouTube has launched a new option for those who want to limit the time spent watching short videos, called Shorts, in the app for iPhone and Android phones.

According to the website The Verge, users will now be able to set the daily Shorts viewing limit to zero minutes, which, in practice, removes this type of content from the platform’s feed.

A YouTube spokeswoman said that the function is now available to some parents and guardians and that “it is currently being released to everyone”. The new feature will not be exclusive to parental control and can also be used by adults who no longer want to see Shorts on the app.

Currently, YouTube already allows you to limit the consumption of these videos to 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, 1 hour or 2 hours per day. With the new option, the user gains even more control over the content displayed.

Here’s how to access YouTube Shorts daily limits:

Open the YouTube app on your iPhone or Android phone;

Tap the icon with your profile photo in the bottom right corner;

Access the settings, represented by a gear in the upper right corner;

Enter the option “Time management”;

Go to “Daily limits” and activate the “Shorts feed limit”;

Choose daily limit desired among the available options;

To deactivate the restriction, simply return to the same option and turn off the limit.

Neal Mohan states that the growth of videos generated by artificial intelligence has increased the problem of low-quality content, but guarantees that the company seeks balance to prevent users from finding a feed dominated by bad material.
