New Spotify app reflects ambitions to rival YouTube

Technology

The Spotify announced a new version of its application dedicated to tablets, which makes better use of the larger screen space to display more information.

In a post on the official blog about the new feature, Spotify highlights that the app offers “a new experience” for users, noting that it was developed “to make listening, watching and discovering content on larger screens more natural”.

It is important to highlight that this version of the application is available for both Android and iPad tablets, ensuring a more consistent experience for users of these devices.

The proposal is to allow users to have more space to navigate the application, without losing full control of the music they are listening to. Naturally, this version also helps Spotify compete with YouTube — especially at a time when the platform is increasingly investing in video podcasts.

At the same time, it is believed that this update also serves as preparation for a version more adapted to foldable cell phones, possibly anticipating what could be Apple’s first iPhone with a foldable screen.
