Threads releases private messages on the web version

The Threads has officially started releasing the private messaging function on the web version of the social network. The new feature is still in the testing phase and will be gradually made available to users over the next few weeks.

The tool has already existed on the cell phone application since July last year, but is only now available for those accessing the platform via computer.

In an official publication, the company reported that it has started releasing the functionality. “We are testing this function right now, but we will make it available to more people soon,” says the statement.

In the web version, users can access the messaging area through the side menu, where it is possible to view the inbox, start individual conversations and check message requests.

The head of Threads, Connor Hayes, also commented on the news and highlighted the importance of the tool for the experience on the platform. “We created private messages because the conversation doesn’t end in the feed,” he said. “This has been a top request since we launched messaging on mobile. Our most active users spend a lot of time on the web because they are on their desktop, logged in, and using Threads for longer periods of time. The conversation tool needs to work wherever you are — and now it does.”

When accessing the messaging area on the computer, the user will see a notification indicating the news: “Private messages have arrived on the web”.

For now, the function does not yet allow group conversations, but the company reported that this feature should be released soon.
