Apple prepares feature that blocks iPhone after theft

In recent years, Apple has launched a series of features aimed at protecting data in cases of iPhone theft. Now, according to information from the website 9to5Mac, the company is working on a new feature capable of automatically identifying when the device is snatched from the user’s hands.

According to the publication, the feature will use the accelerometer already present in the iPhone to detect sudden movements compatible with theft or theft situations.

In practice, if a criminal passes by on a motorcycle and takes the victim’s cell phone, for example, the device can recognize the suspicious behavior and automatically trigger the screen lock, without the need for any action from the user.

The expectation is that the function will become even more efficient for anyone using an Apple Watch. The connection between the smart watch and the iPhone can help to more accurately identify when the device has been suddenly separated from its owner.

For now, Apple has not confirmed when it intends to make the new feature available nor whether it will be part of iOS 27, the next major update to the iPhone’s operating system.

As Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) takes place between June 8th and 12th, there is an expectation that the company will take advantage of the event to officially present the new security feature.
