Amazon has released an update to the Alexa Plus assistant that expands the service’s ability to connect to smart home devices. Year
In an example released by Amazon, a user with a compatible washing machine can say: “Alexa, my son’s soccer uniform needs a more intense wash, but the label says cold wash only.” Alexa+ would navigate through the machine’s cycle options and select the appropriate setting.
The new integrations are powered by Amazon’s new AI development kit, described by the company as a tool to make it easier for device makers to connect to Alexa+, “including those with unique capabilities that were not previously supported.”

Alexa+ has been reformulated (and is still being reformulated)
- The redesigned Alexa+ was widely launched by Amazon in February and has been available in Brazil since June;
- The assistant is capable of executing multi-step requests and helping to create routines via voice command;
- It currently operates with a limited number of third-party services, including Ticketmaster, OpenTable, Uber, Thumbtack, Expedia, Yelp, Square and Angi;
- To expand this reach, Amazon is adopting the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open source standard that allows AI models to connect to external systems and tools;
- As a result, companies such as Canva, Headspace, Priceline, Lyft, Cengage, Virgin Atlantic and Weekend will begin offering integrations with Alexa+ later this year.
As an example of use, Priceline will allow customers to search for hotel options and make reservations directly through the Amazon assistant. The company, along with Atom Tickets, Cengage, Fandango and Taskrabbit, will also soon accept payments via Amazon Wallet.
