The Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced the expansion of its long-term strategic partnership with Microsoft to expand the use of the manufacturer’s GPUs, CPUs, networking solutions, and software in Azure.
In a statement released this Monday, the 20th, the company informed that Microsoft will expand the use of the AMD Helios rack-scale solution in Azure to run inference loads of data models. artificial intelligence (AI) frontier, meeting internal, customer and Azure AI service demands.
Azure will also offer two new series of virtual machines based on sixth-generation AMD EPYC “Venice” processors: Azure HDv2, aimed at agentic AI and data processing flows (pipelines), and Azure HXv2, aimed at semiconductor development.
At 11:29 am (Brasília time), AMD shares rose 4.02% on the Nasdaq, while Microsoft rose 0.17%.
Microsoft will further expand the deployment of AMD Think DPUs to the AI backend network infrastructure and select Azure services, as well as integrate AMD technologies into Azure Boost to increase network performance and efficiency at scale.
AMD said it will begin shipping the Helios platform to customers, including Microsoft, in the second half of 2026. The platform brings together AMD Instinct MI455X GPUs, AMD EPYC “Venice” CPUs, the Pense network, and ROCm software in an integrated, open architecture aimed at large-scale AI training and inference.
According to executives from both companies, the expansion of collaboration aims to offer greater performance, scalability and more infrastructure options for a wide range of AI workloads.
