Apple’s new CEO will have to deal with two (big) challenges

SIt will be in September this year that John Ternus will take on the role of Apple’s new CEO and, according to the Financial Times, the new leader of the “apple company” will already have two major challenges ahead of him.

The first challenge will be the increase in the price of RAM memory and other components, which has led several companies to readjust the prices of their electronic devices.

According to the publication, until recently RAM memory represented around 10% of the final cost of an iPhone, but, with recent increases, this value can reach up to 45% of the final price. Given this, Ternus will have to decide whether Apple absorbs this cost, reducing its profit margin, or whether it passes the increase on to consumers, running the risk of affecting sales.

The second challenge is diversifying the production sites for Apple products.

Although most devices are still manufactured in China and India, in recent years pressure has increased from the United States for the company to also expand its production in American territory.

In the past, current CEO Tim Cook managed to balance this situation with good political relations, including during the Trump administration. Now, it remains to be seen how Ternus will manage to maintain this balance without damaging Apple’s image in the US or China.

New CEO wants to surpass predecessor

The year 2026 will mark the arrival of a new CEO at Apple. After 15 years under the leadership of Tim Cook, the company will be led by John Ternus, who currently holds the position of senior vice president of hardware engineering.

Ternus is expected to officially take over during Apple’s annual event in September, when the company is expected to present its first foldable smartphone — provisionally called the iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra.

This launch should be just the beginning of a series of new features. According to Bloomberg, Apple plans to enter around ten new product categories in the coming years.

“(John) Ternus is preparing for a real avalanche of products,” states the publication, highlighting that he could lead Apple to explore more categories than Tim Cook during his 15 years at the helm. “With the foldable iPhone and other launches, the company will be able to enter approximately ten new categories, which would allow Ternus to quickly surpass its predecessor in this regard.”

It is worth remembering that, under Cook’s leadership, Apple entered a few new categories: smart watches, wireless headphones and virtual and augmented reality devices, with the Apple Watch, AirPods and Vision Pro, respectively.
