The Battery autonomy continues to be, to this day, one of the factors most valued by cell phone users, which makes it no surprise that many mobile device manufacturers have sought to increase the capacity of these components in recent years.
Huawei apparently wants to further increase the capacity of cell phone batteries and, according to the Digital Chat Station page on the Chinese social network Weibo, it is working on a new technology that will allow it to create batteries with more than 10,000 mAh.
The publication does not provide many details about the chemistry or architecture, but states that Huawei is testing “a new battery material” that will allow it to considerably increase the energy stored in these components.
It is not yet clear when Huawei intends to launch the first cell phones with this type of battery, but considering that this is one of the most important points when choosing a new smartphone, it makes sense that the Chinese company wants to get ahead of its competitors in this market.
It is worth remembering that, nowadays, cell phone batteries have an average capacity of 5,000 mAh, so a device with twice that capacity would have a significant impact on autonomy.
The most important thing when buying a new cell phone
Price and battery life were cited by survey participants as the two most important factors in a cell phone. The website CNet carried out an online survey of 2,486 adults in the USA (of which 2,407 currently own a smartphone) and came to interesting conclusions.
The vast majority of participants stated that they care most about the price (55%) and battery life (52%) when buying a new cell phone.
The third most valued factor is internal storage capacity, but only 38% of respondents cited it as the main reason for purchasing a new device. Next come camera features (27%), screen size (22%) and the decision to remain on the same operating system (17%).
Regarding the artificial intelligence functions that are being included in more and more cell phones, they do not seem to be as valued by North American consumers as manufacturers imagined. According to the survey, only 12% of participants value these AI integrations.
Even new cell phone formats, such as foldables, are not as valued by the public as one might expect.
Only 13% of respondents said they buy a new cell phone with innovative design in mind and, considering the high price of foldables — and the fact that price is the most important factor — it is unlikely that this type of device will be widely adopted as long as it continues to cost a lot.
