Some Galaxy Watch owners are facing a weird restart bug

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch variants consistently rank among the best smartwatches in the business. However, like with any hardware, bugs and glitches can pop up from time to time, and we can now report on one such case involving Samsung’s premium smartwatch model.

According to SamMobile, a Galaxy Watch Ultra at their disposal was prompted to restart after a time zone update. It’s not uncommon for this message to appear, particularly if you’ve switched time zones recently. However, the site found that the smartwatch refused to boot after pressing restart.

Being unable to get their smartwatch to turn on can naturally induce some panic among owners. Thankfully, the folks at SamMobile discovered that placing their Galaxy Watch Ultra on its charging puck brought it back to life.

This is a fairly simple fix for a problem that shouldn’t exist in the first place. But until Samsung issues a software update for this time zone-related restart bug, this makeshift solution will have to do. We’re seeing at least a couple of other users in the Samsung community forum going through a similar ordeal, including one on the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic and another on the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.

That said, we haven’t seen widespread reports of this issue online over the past few days. It’s unclear whether the Galaxy Watch Ultra, Watch Ultra 2, and the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic are the only smartwatches affected. We have reached out to Samsung about this particular glitch and will update the story when we hear back.

A bug like this can be irritating, especially since it seems to be triggered by an innocuous time zone update. For now, it’s probably safe to avoid the time zone update-related restart altogether, particularly if you’re away from the charger.
