Intel and Apple close preliminary agreement to manufacture chips, says newspaper

Business Technology

Intel has reached a preliminary agreement with Apple to manufacture chips to be used in the iPhone creator’s devices, according to information from The Wall Street Journal published this Friday (8).

The publication says that it has not yet been decided which Apple products will receive Intel semiconductors, according to people familiar with the matter.

Negotiations began more than a year ago and the agreement was closed in recent months. The Wall Street Journal reached out to both companies, but they declined to comment.

Intel had been facing a financial crisis until the beginning of Donald Trump’s administration, who later acquired 10% of the company’s shares by converting US$9 billion in federal subsidies into a stake in the chipmaker. The government’s intention was to strengthen Intel in the dispute against TSMC, from Taiwan, and Samsung, from South Korea.

In addition to Apple, Intel recently closed agreements with Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Nvidia. According to The Wall Street Journal, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick spoke repeatedly throughout 2025 with Apple, SpaceX and Nvidia to get them to close deals with Intel.
