“The most recent report from Counterpoint Research indicates that the iPhone 17 was the best-selling cell phone in the world during the first quarter of 2026, representing 6% of all smartphones sold during that period.
The list includes three more Apple devices: the iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Pro appear in second and third positions, respectively, among the best-selling cell phones. The iPhone 16 also appears in the ranking, occupying sixth place.
Although Apple occupies the top three places in the table, Samsung is the brand with the largest number of devices in the ranking. The Galaxy A07 4G (4th place) was Samsung’s best-selling cell phone in the first three months of 2026, followed by the Galaxy A17 5G (5th place), the Galaxy A56 (7th place), the Galaxy A36 (8th place) and the Galaxy A17 4G (9th place).
Closing the table appears the Redmi A5, from Xiaomi, in 10th position.
“The iPhone 17 continues to outperform its predecessor thanks to important improvements,” said Counterpoint Research senior analyst Harshit Rastogi, highlighting “basic storage, camera resolution and screen refresh rate”, factors that help the standard model “get closer to the Pro variants”.
“The device recorded double-digit year-on-year growth in key markets such as China and the United States, as well as three times growth in South Korea during this quarter,” Rastogi added. “The iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Pro were close behind, offering even more advanced features in terms of camera, battery and new color, material and finishing options.”
