The iPhone Air 2 is rumored to last longer than the original thanks to a much larger battery, fixing one of the biggest flaws of the super-thin smartphone.
The iPhone Air was a device of compromise, with its thin frame made possible by some size-cutting specification choices. For the second-gen model, Apple is apparently seeking to right one of the perceived wrongs.
According to Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station on July 7, citing the supply chain, the iPhone Air 2 will have a battery with a capacity of around 3,500mAh.
The current-gen iPhone Air has a much smaller 3,149mAh battery to facilitate its thin design. If true, the iPhone Air 2’s battery will represent an 11% increase in capacity.
To consumers, this would be the equivalent of adding a few extra hours of battery life to the model. For a smartphone that Apple rates as having up to 27 hours of battery life for offline video playback, the updated model could breach 30 hours.
The leaker doesn’t say how the model will increase its capacity. Since its thinness is the main marketing point, it is more probable that Apple either found more room to pack more battery in, or battery technology improvements will add more lifespan.

Powered by an A20 chip made with a 2-nanometer process, the iPhone Air 2 will still use a 6.55-inch OLED screen with 120Hz ProMotion. Face ID and the Dynamic Island are also expected for the front side, as usual.
Around the back, the leaker says there will be a dual-camera system, up from the single camera setup. It will consist of a 48-megapixel main camera alongside an ultra-wide option.
These details aren’t unexpected, as they have previously been mentioned in other rumors, or would otherwise be an educated guess.
Weibo leakers don’t have the best reputation when it comes to leak accuracy, due to recycling rumors from elsewhere with little regard to fact-checking. Digital Chat Station is one of the more prominent leakers on the site, but they do still suffer from a mixed track record.
