The God of War Ragnarök franchise will gain a new chapter four years after the release of the last title. The news was officially presented by Sony during the State of Play event held this Tuesday (2) and brings an important change: Kratos will not be the protagonist of the story.

The new game, called God of War Laufey, will have as its main character Faye, Kratos’ wife and central figure in the events that began the Norse saga of the series that began in God of War.

Exclusive to PlayStation 5, the title has not yet had a release date announced.

To present the news, Sony showed the first 20 minutes of gameplay. The plot begins shortly after Faye’s cremation. Played by actress Deborah Ann Woll, the character awakens in a mysterious place and, after facing some initial battles, ends up being captured and imprisoned.

According to information released by PlayStation, the adventure takes place in Everywhen, a kind of afterlife realm of the gods. The location would bring together creatures, entities and elements from different mythologies, further expanding the franchise’s universe.

Despite the change of protagonist, the first images indicate that the new game will maintain several features that have established the series, including the exploration of scenarios, intense combat and a character-focused narrative.

More details about the story, mechanics and release date should be revealed in the coming months.

One of Microsoft’s most anticipated RPGs has been delayed until February 2027. The company cites strong competition in the release calendar, which includes titles like “GTA VI”, “Halo” and “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4”.
