Steam makes gifts easier and gets a new wish list with personalized categories

Emphasis Gamer

Who is a fan of Steamyou already know: the Gabe (almost) never makes mistakes and, even when he makes mistakes, he tries to get it right! Leaving jokes aside, the news this time is that Valve updated the gifting systems and Steam wishlists with the aim of simplifying the purchase of games on loved platform.

The changes, announced by the company, include the expanding the use of guest accounts and new ways to send giftsin addition to organization tools for titles saved by users.

Guest accounts now allow direct purchase of games

The functionality of guest account on Steampreviously restricted to purchasing gift cards and Steam hardware, has been expanded.

It is now possible to use it to purchase complete games directly, speeding up the process for those who do not have a registration on the platform.

Sending games via email eliminates the need to know the recipient’s Steam account

The gifting process has also been redesigned. The main new feature is the possibility of sending games directly by email. Previously, sending a gift required the buyer to know the recipient’s Steam account name.

With the update, a game redemption link can be sent to any email address, even if it is not associated with a Steam account.

Two limitations accompany this functionality. The sender must be in the same country as the recipient to use email sending. If the gift is not accepted within 30 days, the purchase price is automatically refunded.

To gift someone in a different country, the Steam friendship requirement remains. However, the calculation of the value of the game in the friend’s region is now done automatically by the platform at the time of finalizing the purchase.

Categories organize the wish list as a folder system

To the wishlist improvements introduce a system of categories that works in a similar way to folders or tags. The user can name the categories as they prefer and add games to them from the store page or from their existing wish list.

Selecting a category at the top of the wish list page filters the view to display only the games organized within it.

To the notifications on list item promotions can be turned on or off for specific categories, rather than applying the setting to the entire list.

The update includes minor interface tweaks. You can now generate a shareable link for the entire wish list or a specific category.

And last but not least, we inform you that the information visualization has also been improved: when hovering the cursor over a saved game, the user can see if it has a demo available and watch the trailer directly in the wish list.
