Subnautica 2 surpasses 5 million wishlists on Steam ahead of Early Access release

Subnautica 2 reached the milestone of 5 million additions to wishlists on Steam even before its launch in Early Access. The announcement was made by Unknown Worlds this Monday (11).

The studio also confirmed that pre-orders and pre-downloads of the game are now available. available on Steam. This way, players will be able to access the title immediately when the Early Access period begins on May 14th.

First Dive Showcase revealed news about the sequel

To celebrate the approaching launch, Unknown Worlds recently held a special First Dive Showcase broadcast, airing simultaneously on Twitch, YouTube and Steam.

According to the studio, the event reached a peak of 70 thousand simultaneous viewers and presented unprecedented details about the game’s new design direction, in addition to demonstrating new gameplay systems, vehicles and expanded base building options.

The scenes shown highlighted visual improvements driven by Unreal Engine 5, including new lighting effects and underwater rendering.

New system will allow character adaptation

Among the main novelties of Subnautica 2 is an environmental adaptation system that will allow players to evolve their bodies to survive in different conditions on the alien planet.

Additionally, the sequel will feature:

  • more advanced base construction;
  • new underwater vehicles;
  • gigantic abyssal creatures;
  • unprecedented ecosystems;
  • graphical improvements compared to the original game.

According to Ted Gill, CEO of Unknown Worlds, the studio intends to continue developing the game together with the community during the Early Access period.

“We’re excited about launching in Early Access. We can’t wait to hear your feedback as we continue to build this game together.”

Cooperation for up to four players will be new

Developed by Unknown Worlds, founded by Charlie Cleveland and Max McGuire, Subnautica 2 will be the official sequel to the title that helped popularize the underwater survival genre.

The new adventure takes place on a new alien planet within the franchise’s universe and introduces, for the first time in the series, an optional cooperative mode for up to four players.

With this, it will be possible to explore the planet’s oceans as a team, sharing resources, building bases and facing underwater threats together.
