The Valve launched the new Steam Controller at the beginning of May and users have already started to discover some curious functions hidden in the accessory.
Among them, one particularly caught attention on social media: the controller emits a famous cinema scream when it falls to the ground.
The detail was discovered by players in recent days and quickly went viral in videos posted online. In certain falls or stronger impacts, the Steam Controller reproduces the so-called “Wilhelm Scream”, a classic sound effect used for decades in Hollywood.
The scream is considered one of the most famous Easter eggs in pop culture and has appeared in hundreds of film and television productions.
According to experts, the sound was used for the first time in a recording made in 1951 and, since then, it has appeared in more than 400 films, including famous franchises such as Star Wars and Indiana Jones.
The game hidden by Valve works as a kind of “dramatic” reaction of the controller when falling.
Despite this, the feature is not activated every time the device hits the ground.
According to tests carried out by the PC Gamer website, there is a waiting period between one activation and another, which can exceed one minute. In other words, there is no point in dropping the control repeatedly trying to hear the scream all the time.
