WhatsApp announced the launch of the “Anonymous Chat” function, a new feature that will allow users to have private conversations with Meta’s artificial intelligence, Meta AI, without even the company having access to the content of the messages.
In a publication on the official blog, WhatsApp reported that the new feature uses a technology called “Private Processing”, created to guarantee greater protection for users’ interactions with AI.
“Other apps have introduced incognito modes, but they can still see the questions they receive and the answers they send. Anonymous Chat with Meta AI is truly private. No one can read your conversation, not even us,” the company said.
According to WhatsApp, when starting an Anonymous Conversation, the user creates a temporary conversation visible only to them.
“Messages are processed in a secure environment that not even Meta has access to,” explained the platform.
The application also reported that conversations will not be stored and that, by default, messages will disappear automatically.
“This gives you space to think and explore ideas without anyone watching,” the company added.
WhatsApp also revealed that it intends to expand AI capabilities in the coming months with a function called “Parallel Conversation”, which will also be protected by the Private Processing system.
In practice, the feature will allow the user to receive private help on any conversation in progress, using the context of the main chat without directly interfering with it.
According to the company, the new tool should work temporarily, without storing messages or sharing data.
