The WhatsApp is developing a new feature in the beta version of the iPhone app that will allow users to view which contacts are online or have been active recently.
The news was identified by the website WABetaInfo, which specializes in monitoring platform updates. According to the publication, the application will gain a new area dedicated to showing which contacts are available to chat at that moment.
Currently, WhatsApp already allows you to know if a person is online. To do this, simply open the conversation with the contact and check if the “online” indication appears below the user’s name.
The problem is that, to check the availability of several contacts, you need to open conversation by conversation. With the new functionality, this verification will be centralized in a single space within the application.
“This area will show contacts who have been online recently, making it easier to know who is available,” reported WABetaInfo.
According to the website, the feature will be located in the application settings, just below the user’s profile photo.
“Within this area, users will find their favorite contacts for quick access. WhatsApp will display up to four favorite contacts in this space. This layout will make communicating with favorite contacts more convenient,” the post added.
The tool will also allow you to customize which contacts appear in this area. Additionally, users will continue to be able to hide their activity information from others.
“As a result, visibility in this contact area will always depend on privacy settings,” highlighted WABetaInfo.
For now, the feature remains in the testing phase in the beta version of WhatsApp for iPhone and there is still no official forecast for the launch of the new feature for all users.
