Anbernic attracted attention last week with a new metallic version of the RG SP, which greatly improves its finish and sacrifices the analog joysticks. Now the company has released a little more information regarding its specifications and shown the laptop’s emulation power for old games.
The video below shows the device running games from different systems. Obviously the biggest highlight goes to games that came out on the Game Boy Advance, the great inspiration for the RG SP format.
However, we can also see some games from the Nintendo 64, PSP and even one for the Dreamcast, indicating the competence of Anbernic’s new portable even for titles that are a little more demanding than what the GBA offered.
But we can’t expect much performance beyond that, and even some specific titles from the Dreamcast itself that appears in the video may choke if they are more demanding. That’s according to the few extra specs Anbernic shared for the laptop:
- 3.4” IPS screen (720 x 480)
- 3x pixel-perfect scaling for the GBA
- 1GB of RAM
Anbernic maintains revised memory from previous version
The reveal of RAM memory shows that Anbernic kept the same number as the RG SP already available. The company’s GBA SP-style laptop was actually launched with 2GB of memory, but in January this year the capacity was cut in half while maintaining the same price.
The decision, obviously, was taken due to the rise in memory prices, caused by the shortage of DRAM and NAND components in the current market. We can see, then, that in the renewed version of RG SP, this detail will be maintained.

On the one hand, the feature seems to indicate that Anbernic will maintain its competitive pricing strategy for the metallic RG SP, possibly launching the product for less than US$100, as happened with its original model. It remains to be seen, however, what the device’s processor will be before speculating further about its value.
