Zoom CEO predicts three-day work week until 2031

While Brazil discusses the end of the 6×1 scale, the founder and CEO of Zoom, Eric Yuan, went much further and made a bold prediction for the near future: weeks with just three days of work.

Zoom’s CEO touched on the subject when asked about what the world would be like in five years. “What do you think the world will look like and what role will Zoom play in that world?” asked Alan Murray, president of the WSJ Leadership Institute.

“I really like this question, because I hate working five days (…) Five years ago, and even two years ago, I said that the four-day work week would be the new standard. Now I think, in five years, maybe it will be three days. I don’t know for sure, but I think it could be even better,” said Yuan.

He believes that the growth of artificial intelligence will help drive the reduction of days worked per week. For him, human interactions will be more present in everyday life.

“I really don’t think we need to work five days, because literally all of us are going to have a lot of digital agents working for us, right? And I think we’re going to have a lot more time for human interaction, like this one. You’re probably going to be able to spend more time talking to customers, partners, classmates and family members,” he said.

“Look at what we do every day: we spend all our time in emails, channel messaging, meetings, conversations, and logging into systems. I think AI agents can really help us. You could have 10,000 or even 100,000 digital agents working for you.”

The CEO of Zoom even believes that it is past time for a new reduction in weekly working hours. For this, he cited the change that occurred in 1926, when Henry Ford, owner of the Ford Motor Company, innovated and was one of the first major businessmen to adopt the five-day week, with Saturday and Sunday free and the same salary at the end of the month.

“Look at history: Henry Ford revolutionized the work week, reducing it from six to five days. A hundred years later, we’re still at five days. This is the right time. I’m pretty sure we don’t actually need to work five days anymore,” he said.
