The WhatsApp will stop working on older Android phones from September 8th. With the update, the application will require at least Android 6.0, making devices that still operate with versions 5.0 and 5.1 incompatible.

The change was reported in the platform’s Help Center and is part of a review of the technical requirements necessary for the service to operate. Users with affected devices have already started to be notified about the need to update the system or replace the device.

To find out which version is installed on your cell phone, you need to access the device settings and look for the “About phone” or “About device” option. On some models, the information appears within the “Software information” menu, where you can check the version of Android in use.

The recommendation is to make a backup of conversations before the deadline, ensuring the preservation of messages, photos and other files when migrating to a new device. According to the company, the update follows the need to keep the application aligned with the latest security and performance standards.
