Airbnb leader wants to launch his own AI laboratory

A.I Emphasis

Airbnb co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky appears to be planning to launch his own lab dedicated to developing Artificial Intelligence. The information was released by Bloomberg and later confirmed to the TechCrunch website.

The publication, however, obtained more details about Chesky’s plans for this new initiative. Apparently, he will not leave his position as CEO of Airbnb and will only assume the position of president of the new laboratory.

It is not yet known who will be responsible for the operational leadership of the project, but it has already been revealed that the initiative arose from Chesky’s dissatisfaction with the current major language models.

Although Airbnb already uses some Artificial Intelligence tools aimed at programming, the company has not yet entered into a broader partnership in the area, as Chesky considers that the products currently available do not yet reach the desired level of quality.

According to the information released, the new Artificial Intelligence laboratory will focus on design and user experience.

Despite the details already known, neither Chesky nor Airbnb have officially commented on the matter.

Airbnb CEO says AI writes 60% of the company’s new code
Brian Chesky took advantage of Airbnb’s most recent financial results release to highlight the growing use of Artificial Intelligence tools in the company’s internal processes.

According to him, the AI solutions that have contributed most to the company are those focused on code generation.

According to the executive, around 60% of the code produced by Airbnb engineers is currently written with the help of Artificial Intelligence. This has allowed the company to accelerate support offered to API partners.

“API partners say they want better hosts and they need better tools,” Chesky said, according to TechCrunch. “Artificial Intelligence gives us a huge advantage. Whereas before it took a team of 20 engineers, now a single engineer can guide AI agents to do much more work under their supervision. Adopting Artificial Intelligence tools allows us to develop more software for API partners and accelerate tasks that we previously didn’t have enough resources for.”

It is worth noting that Airbnb is not the only company in the technology sector to highlight the benefits of Artificial Intelligence for code production. Companies like Snap and PayPal also made similar pitches during their recent earnings releases.
